At ECR 2026, the session “Novel approaches for trustworthy artificial intelligence (AI) in cancer diagnostics and treatment” will bring together leading experts to explore how AI can be developed, validated, and deployed responsibly to support clinicians and improve patient care.
The 90-minute session, scheduled for March 4 from 13:00 to 14:30 CET, will address cutting-edge advances in AI for breast cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment planning, along with emerging frameworks ensuring trust, transparency, and safe implementation.
A highlight of the session is the ODELIA presentation on swarm learning, an innovative approach enabling collaborative AI training without requiring data exchange between institutions. ODELIA representative Dr. Oliver Lester Saldanha will showcase how this technique is being advanced through the Open Consortium for Decentralized Medical Artificial Intelligence (ODELIA).

Detailed programme:
- Chairperson’s introduction (Regina Beets-Tan, Amsterdam / Netherlands)
- Developing a validated AI-based decision-making support system for breast cancer (Karim Lekadir, Barcelona / Spain) > insights from RadioVal
- Learning without sharing. AI collaboration without data exchange through swarm learning (Oliver Lester Saldanha, Dresden / Germany) > insights from ODELIA
- Expanding data availability for development and validation of AI tools in breast cancer screening and diagnoses (Francesco Sardanelli, Milan / Italy) > insights from BreastSCan
- Accelerating trustworthy AI deployment in cancer diagnostics (Regina Beets-Tan, Amsterdam / Netherlands) > insights from COMPASS-AI
