University of Zurich

The University of Zürich (UZH) is the largest university in Switzerland located in the city of Zürich. This public university counts over 30,000 enrolled students (nearly 6,000 are international students). It was founded in 1833 from the existing colleges of theology, law, medicine which go back to 1525.
 
Currently, the university has seven faculties, over 150 departments and more than 200 study programs. With an academic staff of over 4,700 employees, the university of Zürich awards every year over 2,000 master degrees and nearly 2,500 bachelor’s degrees.
 

The University Hospital of Zürich (USZ) is one of the university hospital and clinics of the UZH. With over 42’000 hospitalized patients every year, the USZ is one of the largest hospitals in Switzerland.

Role in the project

The UZH supports this breaking through project with the collection of relevant breast MRI data in compliance with the local ethic committee requirements and with the participation to the consortium’s scientific activities in order to contribute to the overarching goal of the ODELIA program: develop, implement and evaluate swarm learning-based workflows to train AI for breast cancer screening and to provide high-quality and sustainable screening options to high-risk women.

 

Andreas Boss

Prof. Dr. Dr. Andreas Boss is head of the radiology department of the GZO Hospital in Wetzikon and associated professor at the USZ. He is board member of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Zurich and of two Swiss medtech startups. In his research activity of the last ten years, he has focused on the data- and model-driven analysis of breast diagnostic data.

 

 

Cristina Rossi

Prof. Dr. Cristina Rossi is a data analyst and former EU Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions fellow. She is author of over 45 peer-reviewed publications and has contributed to several scientific consortia funded for over 30 MCHF. At the USZ, Cristina leads the research unit for quantitative MRI. She is co-founder and CEO of the USZ spinoff b-rayZ.

 

 

Alexander Ciritsis

PD Dr. Alexander Ciritsis is an AI specialist and senior software developer at the USZ. Alexander is specialized in the development of software as a medical device. He received his PhD in Medical Science in 2016 at the RWTH University Aachen. He is co-founder and CTO of the USZ spinoff b-rayZ.
